What I do.

Six ways I help small businesses online — one person, from the first email to launch. Real prices, written down before we start.

Design and build in one pass — whether you are starting from nothing or replacing a site you have grown tired of. One person throughout, no handoffs, and no agency overhead passed on to you.

First three practices: $500, fixed price, up to five pages. I am taking three rebuilds at this rate while I build up case studies for the work. It is a real number, not a quote that moves once you have replied — and the same three slots go to anyone who asks, in the order they ask. After the third it goes back to $700–$1,200, and a brand-new build with nothing to carry across is from $900.

Paying works like this: the price is fixed in writing before anything starts, and the balance is due at launch rather than up front. If you would rather see numbers than take my word for it, I will run a free check of how the current site loads on a phone and send the numbers back. It takes a few minutes and hands over nothing you could use.

What is included

  • Up to five pages, custom visual direction
  • Responsive layouts, built mobile-first
  • A review of the existing site first, if there is one
  • Content carried across where it is usable
  • An editing setup, so you can change things yourself
  • Basic on-page SEO and a contact form
  • Deployment, launch, and 14 days of bug fixes
  • The old site and its hosting retired at go-live

Who it is for

Small businesses with no site yet — or one that is slow, confusing or out of date. Most of my work replaces a site entirely rather than repainting it.

Case study: editing your own site, measured Recent projects — see the write-ups

Not included unless we agree them in writing: extra pages, advanced functionality, copywriting, and third-party fees. If you would rather keep the platform you are on — WordPress, Wix, Squarespace — say so before we start and I will build within it instead. A self-hosted site is usually faster and cheaper to run, but it is your call, not mine. Final price depends on page count, how much content has to move, and how complex the current build is.

Targeted technical work on a site that already exists — no rebuild, no redesign, just the things slowing it down or hiding it. Astro-based sites start fast before I touch them; this is about the ones that don't.

What's included

  • Image optimisation
  • Performance fixes
  • Metadata and sitemap checks
  • Mobile usability
  • Technical SEO checks, written up in plain language

Who it's for

Sites that look fine on your laptop and fall apart on a phone — or that nobody can find.

Measured: 97–99 PageSpeed across six sites

I scope the work before I quote it, and I never promise rankings. What I do promise is that every site I launch is measured against PageSpeed before handover, and tuned until it reads 95 or better.

One job, done properly — the kind of thing that shouldn't need a whole project.

What's included

  • Fixing a layout or responsive problem
  • Updating a section
  • Resolving a small bug
  • A short written note of what changed

Who it's for

Sites that are ninety percent right and just need one thing fixed properly.

Demo: Hearth & Home — 97 PageSpeed

Larger tasks are quoted separately rather than quietly squeezed in.

Ongoing help for owners who'd rather ask a person than learn a new tool at nine at night.

What's included

  • Up to 30 minutes of small updates or help a month
  • A basic availability check
  • Minor technical housekeeping where it applies
  • Priority replies over everything else

Who it's for

Owners who want someone to call — not a ticket queue — when something needs changing.

Case study: what ongoing changes cost you in developer time

Unused time doesn't roll over. New pages, a second site, and larger features are billed on top.

The lights stay on — offered only with a clearly defined scope, so you always know what you're paying for.

What's included

  • Hosting, within an agreed scope
  • SSL certificate, kept renewed
  • Backups
  • Updates and uptime checks

Who it's for

A site that just needs to stay fast, safe and up — with nobody having to think about it.

Case study: hosting on the free tier, £0/month

Domain renewals, third-party fees, paid services and anything beyond a provider's free tier are disclosed separately, and paid by you directly.

What things cost.

These are the five jobs above, with a starting price on each. If your project doesn't fit one of them, tell me what it actually is and I'll price it properly rather than squeezing it into the nearest row.

Website design & build (up to 5 pages)
from $700 first 3 practices: $500 · new build from $900
Performance & SEO pass
from $250
Small fixes & updates
from $75
Website care
from $40 / month
Hosting & maintenance
from $15 / month

These are starting prices. Every project is quoted as a fixed price in writing once the scope is confirmed — and if the scope changes, you approve the new number before anything happens.

The first three rebuilds are $500 rather than $700–$1,200, while I build up case studies for the work. After those three the normal price applies. Every build is priced in writing before anything starts, and the balance is due at launch.

Additional work.

Extra page, using an existing layout
$100
Extra page, with its own custom design
$200
Complex landing page
$200–$350+
Extended or multi-step form
+ $75–$150
Booking integration
$200–$500+
Third-party API or advanced integration
$150–$400+
Copywriting
$75–$150+ / page

Starting estimates, not automatic fixed prices. Complexity, content, integrations, deadlines and revisions are all considered before I quote.

How a project runs.

  1. 01

    Understand

Your business, your customers, and what the site actually has to do for you.

  2. 02

    Direction

We agree the visual direction — typography, colour, imagery, and the feeling.

  3. 03

    Design

The homepage and the important page layouts, designed before anything is built.

  4. 04

    Build

With reusable components, adapted or created as your project needs.

  5. 05

    Test

Responsive, accessibility basics, forms, links, and editing your own content.

  6. 06

    Launch

The site goes live, and you get the accounts, the keys, and the walkthrough.

What I'll need from you.

  • A logo, or permission to set one in type
  • Your text — or notes, if you'd like me to write it
  • Photos: the work, the place, the team, the product
  • Access to your domain and any accounts you already have
  • One person who can say yes quickly

Send whatever you have. Missing content doesn't change the price — it changes the date, and I'll tell you which parts are holding things up.

What I don't promise.

  • Search. I can't hand you a first-page position, because no one can promise that. What I do is build the technical groundwork properly — fast, crawlable, structured — and then you rank on the strength of the business behind it.
  • Speed. No number quoted before I've seen the project, because the number depends on the project. Every site I launch is measured, and tuned to 95+ on PageSpeed before handover.
  • Security. Nothing online is unbreakable. What you get is the sensible protection — HTTPS, secure headers, no shared hosting, dependencies kept current — plus an honest note of what's left to manage.
  • Results. I can't promise your revenue. What I can promise is a site that loads fast, reads clearly and is easy to change yourself, which is what almost always moves the numbers.
  • Hosting. A free tier will carry a small site for a good while. I'll flag it well before you outgrow it, with the cost of the step up, so it's a decision rather than a surprise.

Before you ask.

How much does a website cost?

A build starts at $900 for up to five pages. Replacing an existing site starts at $700 and usually lands between $700 and $1,200, depending on size and how much content has to move — and the old site is retired at launch, so its hosting bill goes with it. The first three rebuilds are $500 while I build up case studies, and every rebuild is priced in writing before anything starts, with the balance due at launch.

How long will it take?

The date is set once the scope is, and it's in the quote. Content is almost always the slowest part — which is why I tell you exactly what to send, and when.

Do I own everything when it's done?

Yes. Domain, hosting, CMS, code and content are yours, and I set them up in your accounts wherever possible. Domain renewals and third-party fees are disclosed separately and paid by you directly.

What if I need changes later?

Small jobs start at $75. Ongoing help is the $40/month care plan. And with the editing setup, many changes you can make yourself in a minute — that's the point of it.

Do you just resell templates?

No. I reuse my technical foundation — the navigation, buttons, forms and accessibility patterns — but the design is decided for your business, every time. If a template-led build is the sensible option, I'll tell you that plainly and price it accordingly.

How many revisions do I get?

Whichever number we write into the quote before we start. It depends on the project, and it's agreed up front rather than discovered halfway through.
